Description

Tools: 1 dark blue bic pen.

The other night, I was unable to fall asleep... I had this idea for a picture that I just couldn't get out of my head until I visualized drawing it through to its completion... the next day I was too tired to do so though... but the day after that... well, as you can see, I got right to work.

This is version 1

That final picture has been submitted to ~equigoyle as an entry into her contest to design a spirit dragon. You can see info about the contest in my journal at this time because I am trying to help promote it for her.

That being said, I hope you enjoy.

I love this picture. The details were obviously labored over for perfection. I also like that this picture, with all the blue, doesn't look like it's the same blue. Parts look very smooth or wispy or textured. I love the variety.

Now the reason I wanted to critique this so badly is anatomy. I don't have the best anatomy skills, even though I study it like crazy. I like the elongated proportions. It makes it look very feminine and enhances the "pretty." Now, I don't know whether or not I like the body position from chest down. Neck up is beautiful. The rest of the body looks twisted around unnaturally. The dragon must be very uncomfortable. You give us a frontal, 3/4 view on the chest and forelegs. Then you give us a back, 3/4 view on the haunches. Be a little more consistent. If the body is going to twist, spread it throughout the body or twist less.

Overall, absolutely amazing. I'm putting this in my favorites.

Vision: 5 stars. This totally embodies the title.
Originality: 5 stars. Most people wouldn't know how to draw a "spirit dragon." Maybe, ghost-like or something, but this has substance.
Technique: 4 stars. My only complaint is the anatomy which I've explained above.
Impact: 5 stars. I'm blown away. I love this picture. Well done.
